Beautiful words and thought-provoking art, Shilpa Gupta constructs subtle messages through various objects and mediums. Based in Mumbai Gupta received her BFA in sculpture from Sir J J School of Fine Arts in 1997. Her artwork has an international presence and is represented by internationally reputable galleries and has been included in major Biennials like Venice Biennale National Pavilion, Liverpool Biennial, Kochi-Muziris Biennale, etc.
From applying technology to hand made sculptor work, Gupta is a new media artist who explores political, social, and cultural issues of India. Though her subjects are subtly put across, border lining on surreal, the message can almost instantaneously be derived by viewers, and more so by the observers who are familiar with the issues. She also deals with universal issues like globalization, consumerism, gender politics, human rights, religious disparities, etc. Shilpa Gupta poses the situation and you look for the answers yourself.
