[Q] HOW DO YOU FORECAST UPCOMING BRIDAL TRENDS?
“When we forecast trends, we give brides more options. A lot depends on the mood. There is a huge shift towards more minimalistic brides. Brides are embracing their personality while choosing their outfits. It’s about what they feel good in. I know a bride who had a dream catcher embroidered on her outfit because it was something she is really fond of. I know a bride that went for a really subtle outfit. I think it is very personal.”
[Q] EVEN YOU GOT MARRIED RECENTLY. CAN YOU TELL US HOW YOU STYLED YOURSELF?
“I remember I was styling the Vogue Wedding Book and I was like oh great, I will just find my outfit at the shoot. And I saw outfit after outfit and probably 45 outfits. I thought none of them were me. I always thought I would wear a bright pink colour as a bride. But, when I actually went to look out for my outfit I saw one Falguni Shane Peacock outfit and knew this was it. I did not try to look different. I did not think every look of mine needed to look different. I know lehengas suit my body type and I decided I will wear a lehenga for every function. I think you really need to embrace what you feel good in.”
[Q] WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE MAJOR TRENDS IN THE BRIDAL MARKET FOR 2019?
“I personally feel that you need to be yourself when you are a bride. I do think there is a big shift towards unusual colours. Brides are not only going for the traditional reds and pinks. People are embracing newer colour palettes like icy blue, grey, gold, toned down silvers, pale pinks etc. Unusual colour palette is a big key trend.”
[Q] WHAT ARE SOME SILHOUETTES, COLOURS AND STYLES THAT BRIDES MUST INCLUDE IN THEIR TROUSSEAU IN 2019?
“Experiment more than the traditional anarkali, salwar kameez etc. Noodle strap kurtas and corset blouses with big skirts are really in. Get rid of the dupattas and embrace more cape jackets. I think that is a really cool style. You could style 70s style pants with plain shirts or a blouse with a dupatta, There are multiple ways and I don’t think you need to stick to the traditional styles anymore.”
[Q] WHAT IS THE KEY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STYLING FOR AN EDITORIAL VS. STYLING A CELEBRITY?
“There is such a difference! In an editorial, you have creative freedom- you can make up a character and create a fantasy. While styling a celebrity it is very important to keep the celebrity’s personality in mind when you are styling them. You can’t just make them another person because then they look like they are trying too hard. It is really important that you keep their personality traits in your mind while styling them.”
[Q] A MYTH ABOUT BEING A STYLIST YOU WANT TO BREAK?
“It is not glamorous all the time. We work very hard. Clothes aren not that fun all the time!”
