A study in textures and patterns, Maria Berrio’s work is something akin to magic realism, but one which is also autobiographical in nature. The Colombian born artist graduated with a BFA from Parsons School of design and an MFA from School of Visual Art, New York. Her collages mostly feature female figures, placed in a background of bright patterns and accompanied by flora and fauna, which gives it a dream-like appearance. Berrio’s work is a patchwork of bits and pieces of everyday items and has the persuasion to transport the viewer to a different world.
