Popularly known as the ‘Andy Warhol of Marrakech,’ Hassan Hajjaj is the one who incomparably captures the myriad cultural facets of picturesque Morocco – his birthplace. The multiplicity of his repertoire comprises photography, fashion, sculpting, and video documenting. But it is his knack of creating portraits of his subjects with a burst of hues against the patterned background that earned him the reputation of being an art icon. The winner of the 2011 Sovereign Middle East and African Art Prize, has exhibited his work in New York, London, Paris, Dubai, Berlin, Los Angeles and Marrakesh; and can be seen at the prestigious Brooklyn Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Victoria and Albert Museum amongst others.
