FRANCK MULLER: MASTER OF COMPLICATIONS

FRANCK MULLER: MASTER OF COMPLICATIONS

Franck Muller has boldly stepped outside the conventional norms of watchmaking and left a mark. Renowned for its audacious innovation and artistry, Franck Muller has held a unique place in the world of haute horlogerie. Since its inception, Franck Muller has consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional watchmaking, creating timepieces that are not only mechanically sophisticated but also visually captivating.

The founder, Franck Muller, brought a new dimension to Swiss watchmaking. He skilfully blended time-honoured traditions with modern sensibility, often infusing his designs with playful eccentricity, which made his creations stand out. His early interest in mechanical devices and formal training helped him create intricate wristwatches. His innovative designs earned him the title “Master of Complications”.

The visionary watchmaker partnered with entrepreneur Vartan Sirmakes to establish Franck Muller Genève, with its headquarters located in Genthod, the very village where Franck Muller began his work in 1983, on the outskirts of Geneva.

Franck Muller showcases exceptional craftsmanship and Swiss watchmaking tradition through its 100% in-house production of cases and dials, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to fine watchmaking and authenticity.

Franck Muller has pioneered numerous world-firsts in watchmaking since 1986. Initially, he handcrafted each piece himself, creating marvels like Tourbillon with Jumping Hours (1986) and the Inverted Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar with Minute Repeater (1989).

Each Franck Muller timepiece is a testament to the brand’s daring spirit. It is known for its unique and avant-garde designs, which have become iconic in haute horlogerie. Some of the brand’s standout creations are:

Revolution 3 (2004)

This watch revolutionised the watchmaking industry by making the very first tri-axial Tourbillon in the world. It offers an exceptional technical spectacle as well as emotions only to be found at Franck Muller. This 3-axis Tourbillon corrects the forces of gravity in all positions, contrary to a classic one which only compensates when the wristwatch is in a vertical position.

Cintrée Curvex (1992)

With the case introduced in 1992, its distinct curved tonneau shape was a bold innovation compared to the traditional round or rectangular cases. This instantly recognisable silhouette, along with vibrant dials and beautiful numerals, established the brand’s unique identity.

Giga Tourbillon (2011)

The Franck Muller Premiere in 2011 featured the biggest Tourbillon ever incorporated in a wristwatch. This Tourbillon is absolutely massive. It is twice as big as a regular Tourbillon, its cage measuring 20 mm in diameter and filling half of the watch.

These innovations, requiring years of research and technical mastery, solidified Franck Muller’s reputation and earned him the 2002 Genève Watchmaking Grand Prix.

In its pursuit of expanding the luxury experience, Franck Muller has stepped into new domains, such as the fine fragrance industry. When skilled watchmakers team up with talented perfumers—both experienced in handling complexity and precision while creating beauty—the result is a balanced and immersive sensory experience. The brand has launched a fine fragrance collection in collaboration with top perfumers from CPL Aromas, resulting in five unique Eau de Parfums inspired by iconic Franck Muller watch designs.

Adding another feather to the brand’s advances, the developer London Gate and Franck Muller have introduced their project, the Franck Muller Vanguard Tower. Positioned as a luxury development in Dubai Marina, this new venture seeks to provide an elevated lifestyle experience.
