The Extraordinary
The Creative Director Of Falguni Shane Peacock Shares Her Thoughts On How To Break The Rules.
BE CONTRARY
“I don’t believe in following style rules that ask you to coordinate and match your outfits all the time. I am an equal-opportunities clothes wearer. I like to mix and match pieces that might not be typically feminine or masculine. I like wearing dresses with feather details as much as I like putting on a tailored blazer. You don’t always need match your dress with heels, sometimes kicks do the work!”
BE THE TWIST
“You are not breaking the rule till the time you are not seeing something with a unique perspective. For one of our recent shows, I paired sheer bomber jackets with heavy-embellished gowns. For bomber jackets that pass off as athleisure, seeing them getting paired up with couture was a refreshing delight. The key is to choose one key element and wear it like no one ever has.”
WHO HUE?
“Gone are the days when the time of the day decided what color and kind of clothes you should wear. I have always believed in not blending in. A perfect sunday brunch outfit could also be a sequin embellished top with high waist pants and a denim jacket. One should always strike the right balance to keep it edgy and chic. Knowing your tones and undertones is the only key to wearing the right colours for yourself.”
FIT FIRST
“It’s time to let go of the myth that Curvy/Petite/Tall/etc women can’t wear certain styles. Forget the rules — it’s all about the fit. Look for over-the-knee boots/a jumpsuit/striped shirts that work for your body and flatter your figure.”
BE FEARLESS
“At the end of the day, your style is a extension of who you are. Fitted or oversized, masculine or feminine, minimalistic or maximalist, colourful or monochrome; whatever the clothes may be, you should wear what you love. Comfort coupled with confidence can uplift any look, no matter how conventional or unconventional the clothes may be.”
