Sci-fi cityscape is what comes to mind when one glances at a Cui Jie painting. A closer look reveals the nuances of the layers, and even deeper scrutiny tells us the complex contemplation that has gone into each of the artwork. Based in Beijing, Cui Jie’s artwork explores the merging of architecture with sculptors. Jie’s surreal paintings play with lights and blurring of lines, which results into distorted city lines of past, present, and future. Cui is mostly interested in the influence of Japanese metabolism on Asian modern architecture.
