As a non-Indian on her way to become a South Indian bride, I had a lot of embrace, be it the customs, traditions, the values, wedding rituals, etc. Even for my bridal look, I wanted to combine both, my ideal look that speaks to me and one that was still respectful to the Indian culture. Thankfully, my husband’s family trusted me and I could go ahead and style myself the way you see me in the pictures. I customized a traditional western veil to add my own traditional touch to the look and I added all the custom jewelry I could, until I truly felt like an Indian Goddess.
As a bride, I recommend that every bride-to-be out there should definitely have these 3 things in her wedding trousseau.
1) Layered necklaces. Don’t be afraid to add more!
2) A large bridal bouquet of mixed florals and not just roses.
3) A traditional nose ring that goes well with the shape of your face, but ensures that it doesn’t stand out too prominently taking away the focus from your face
