Globally acclaimed fashion designers Falguni Shane Peacock’s Fall/Winter 2024 New York Fashion Week showcase ‘Forward Momentum – Chapter 20’ is a collection that marked a milestone moment in the brand’s journey. This year, it celebrates two decades of innovation, elegance, and the designers–Falguni Peacock and Shane Peacock’s unwavering passion for fashion. While “Forward Momentum” is a representation of the brand’s steadfast progress, it is also a depiction of its tireless evolution of style over the years.
The collection drew inspiration from the mysterious allure of the femme fatale, symbolising power, intrigue, and an unspoken elegance. The femme fatale—paraphrasing Mildred Pierce—enters the room with impeccable dressing, exuding self-assuredness. Described as “the kind of woman every soul in the room wants”, this smart, confident, seductive, and powerful character embodies a mysterious and aloof yet paradoxically accessible sexuality. The collection paid homage to the strength and depth embraced over the years, reflecting the multifaceted nature of a femme fatale and mirroring it in the brand’s journey.
The collection unfolded with elegantly simple yet intricately detailed dresses, eventually evolving into exquisite statement pieces. “This time around, our collection has gone even darker. While it’s still edgy and avant-garde keeping our brand’s aesthetic in mind, it is now several notches higher on the chic quotient”, Falguni Peacock said. From long jackets to short and crop jackets to dresses featuring intelligently placed cutouts and 3D floral embellishments–the diversity of styles attracted the attention of the fashion-forward. Additionally, it offered straight long cutout skirts crafted with luxurious materials such as soft wool and cashmere, along with cashmere sweaters and dresses for those preferring a chic and sleek look. Delving deeper into the collection reveals a darker, more enigmatic tone, all while retaining the femme fatale allure. Towards the climax, the signature Falguni Shane Peacock gowns made an entrance, each meticulously adorned with shimmering elements and enhanced by intricate fabric details, introducing a fresh dimension to every ensemble.
The colour palette resonates with the brand’s journey, featuring colours that have been a mainstay since its venture into fashion. An array of colours appears in a redefined way, with two colours placed diametrically together, creating a harmonious blend. “We’ve experimented and explored the concept of duality in many ways such as pairing two strikingly different colours,” Shane Peacock said. Imagine a subtle apple green gown accented with lightning silver, a delicate blush gown adorned with striking red embellishments, and a bold black storm gown teeming with alluring details. Metallic tones include dulcet silver pewter with a dash of attractive Corydalis Blue–another key colour for the brand. Several gowns in the collection exhibit a mesmerising two-toned effect, synonymous with the dual energies that Falguni Peacock and Shane Peacock bring to the collection.
Crafted using exquisitely detailed elements and luxe fabrics, the collection’s aesthetic is rooted in classic sensibilities while leaning towards being uniquely experimental. The range showcases garments possessing an edgy and asymmetrical allure, adorned with meticulous detailing throughout. The brand has also created fabrics of their own and introduced fabric textures imbued with rugged edges, infusing a touch of raw beauty into their creations.
